Happy Groundhog Day!

I haven't watched the news today to see what the verdict is, but based on our <0 forecast for the weekend, I'll assume that Phil saw his shadow. Ah, a quick check to the offical groundhog website and I am wrong. Phil says an early spring is on the way. Yippee. Lydia is home from school and missing out on making her very own groundhog without its shadow. Maybe I'll have to get crafty later today.

My parents have quite possibly the best Groundhog Day story ever. I don't know all the details because I was a kid at the time, so mom feel free to add your comments. If only I had a picture to post, it would certainly be priceless. My parents attended a Groundhog Day party (this would have been late 80's), who celebrates Groundhog Day? Well, their little group of friends. Perhaps, living in PA at the time, they felt a kinship with Punxsutawney Phil or they were just a bunch of adults looking for a reason to have a party. My dad thought it would be funny to dress up as a groundhog for the party and surprise everyone. Where on earth does a 6'3" man weighing >250lbs get a groundhog suit? I have no idea, but he got one. The problem was he couldn't wear his glasses while in the suit. Not a good idea, as my dad is probably close to legally blind w/o his specs. After the guests had arrived he was going to make a grand entrance. The hostess kept hearing a thud against the side of the house and went to investigate, only to find this large blind creature trying to make his way to the door. I'm sure it was hilarious in person and I'm sure I've gotten some of the details wrong, even so, it's worth the mental picture.

Here's the update on the sickies: Taylor - still hacking and most likely suffering from some kind of bronchitis and now that she's almost done taking the anti viral meds we can get her some antibiotics; Lydi - came down with croup last night after having a much better day yesterday, she and I camped out in the garage at 3am, to let the cold air do it's magic, which it did; Gaby - still coughing but mostly back to her regular "warning I am three" self; Owen - got the flu on Wednesday, but is not suffering too much, still has lots of smiles despite not being able to breathe through his nose; Sara - sleep deprived, but not sick and Jerry - home from his travels and also not sick.

Um, I tried to post and it was all wierd so I'll see if I can remember what I said and then I'm going to go eat the scallops that we got at costco that smelled too fishy but now they smell divine...
Okay, I said something about camping in the garage at 3 am and how I would have left Cam out there by himself. I'm sure it was witty (and it was certainly a joke, btw). Then I said something about how we're sick too, yada, yada yada. Then i told you how much we miss you...a lot...so much that I would have joined you in the garage.
Hopefully this posts.
Oh, and last thing:
Groundhog suit rental: $40
Wine to bring to the par-tay: $50
Trip to the beauty shopt for pre-par-tay hairdo: $65
Steve wandering around your house looking like a blind, rosy-cheeked burglar/groundhog/mole: priceless

I'm sorry your blog comment went awry. I'm sure it was witty. We miss you too, lots, but even as cool as we are, we can't compete with Texas. Lydia and Taylor are returning to school today - my joy knows no bounds! I'm looking forward to a day of much less arguing, fighting and whining.
