The Sky is Falling

Sometimes when the sky is falling, it's a good thing.

Our c. 1980s house has many c. 1980s features, like faux brass vent covers, a snazzy wet bar, and an interesting assortment of light fixtures. The box light in the kitchen is an eyesore for sure; however, we've never had to change the UV light tubes once in 4 1/2 years of living here. So, when the lights started flickering we debated whose job it was to remove the box and change the light.

Jerry of course lost this battle as all things electrical fall under his realm of chores. Much to my delight the whole thing came crashing down and broke into pieces. Yippee! New light fixture(s) for me.

RIP ugly light fixture.

A girl can't mix eras on her light fixtures can she? I dare say, I will have to replace them all. Fat chance, but a girl can dream.

A collection of the outdated fixtures illuminating my home, or not really.

In the kitchen minus the tassel that used to hang from the fan switch. This ceiling fan has a bonus feature of changeable fan blades. The other side....wicker insets. Jealous?

I have 4 of these.
This is in the laundry room, doesn't even have a cover.
I think this is a Corelle serving dish. I have 2 of them.
Last but not least, my personal favorite. So rare, you can't even buy replacement bulbs for it anymore.

Awesome!! We have some outdated fixtures, too, but not NEARLY that many, and not nearly as...uh...outdated:) Have fun shopping for your new fixtures!!

Hooray for falling light fixtures! I should mention, however, that one does not need to have a c. 1980's house to have ugly light fixtures. Even though they might not be "outdated", I have lots of ugly lights in my c. 2007 house. I feel your pain, and pray that my dear brother will be reasonable and send you out shopping to replace every ugly light fixture in your house :)

And I should add that I have absolutely nothing against bright and energy efficient fluorescent lighting, but why in the world can't some designer out there figure out how to make an ATTRACTIVE fixture that uses fluorescent tubes??? Why is my kitchen sporting a glorified shop light in the name of energy efficiency?????

I am SO needing this comic relief right now. I'm sorry you have inverted Corelle dishes on your ceiling, but it makes for a frickin' hilarious blog.

I'm laughing out loud! I love the corelle serving dishes! And I'm guessing "Pooh" is from the midwest too. Because it sounds like every house in MN too!
