I did it! I signed up. I am officially a member of the Ugly Moms Kickin' Cancer's Trash Team that will walk in Philly this coming October. Boo ya! The weather better behave this year.
I'm kicking off my fundraising with a "SHOW ME SOME LOVE" campaign to collect donations from friends/family/strangers/frenemies that live in each of the 50 States, plus Washington D.C. (I'm looking at you Pittsburgh Sara!!!) A thoughtful $10 from each state will put me $510 closer to my goal.
Sidenote: When I was 13 and spent many summer days at Hershey Park with my BFF Anne, we used to ask people for money, ummm, for no apparent reason other than just because. The details of course are all rather fuzzy at this point in my life, but I think between the two of us we usually raked in about $30, which funded skee ball and lunch, presumably. So, what does my story have to do with the 3 Day? Nothing other than to illustrate that I am not above grovelling for cash from complete strangers.
Deb, Ugly Moms Kickin' Cancer's Trash Team Captain, is also participating as are maybe possibly some of you. I post this only to gain your virtual support, well, that's not entirely true. Many of you live in states outside Iowa and therefore will be targeted in my email campaign, consider yourself warned. I do have to branch out from my 7 readers, so please don't think I'm going to ask you for money each month between now and October. I hope I can achieve my fundraising goals in a slightly less annoying fashion than say PBS' semi-annual membership drives. There are no mugs or CDs for me to use as an incentives for you to give.
I hope you feel inspired to donate. I will still love you even if you can't or won't or choose not too. I would LOVE it if any of you have friends/family that may be interested in donating that live in the following states:
Arkansas
Connecticut
Hawaii
Kentucky
Lousiana
Maryland
Mississippi
North Carolina
North Dakota (I was born there, so I may have to count my own self for that one)
Ohio
Oregon
South Dakota
South Carolina
Vermont
West Virginia
You can direct them to this here blog or my fundraising page HERE. (FYI: if your company or spouse's company matches charitable donations, your contribution can have twice the effect, just ask me how).

And we're off!
Okay, so two things:
a.)the hersheypark story may go down in history as one of the best Sara stories ever in existence.
2.) I love that you gave a shout-out to Pittsburgh Sara. THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR ALLOWING YOURSELF TO GET DRAGGED INTO THIS FAMILY! Bwah-ha!
Three.) I'll support you. And Deb. And if I have to do it more than once I will. Because I just love you. A lot.
IV.) Sad I can't be on the team this year. But at least I get a baby out of it.
Fizzle.) Is there any way your team sub-name could be "Side Pony Express?" It just seems fitting...
And the PBS drive comment. Awesome. Because, seriously, those are annoying.
Be careful, I just might send you a half-dozen roses and a gift membership to WITF 89.5, local home of NPR/Car Talk/Wait Wait Don't Tell Me/All Things Considered (but first The News)/Whad'Ya Know?/Radio Smart Talk/Marketplace to express my love and support of public radio for your birthday.
Or I'll just keep listening for free and donate to SARA AND ME!!!
Pittsburgh Sara is on board. Even without a direct shout-out! :)
