Channeling my inner Martha

I swore that this year I would NOT make, craft or create any of my kids costumes. I usually take on some monumental task of making home crafted costumes - and I'm no Chrysta. The first plan was for Lydia and Gaby to be Hawkeye Cheerleaders and Owen a Hawkeye football player. Owen will be suiting up for Saturday's game, and perhaps he can help the Hawks turn their season around.

Gaby will be sporting a too small Hawkeye cheerleader costume. Is there such a thing as a cheerleading skirt that is too short? She'll be wearing pants underneath as fall has finally arrived to be closely followed by winter.

There was not a reasonably priced cheerleader outfit to fir Lydia, so she's been mulling over all of the potential things she could be for Halloween. The list went something like this: panther, cat, horse, dog, squirrel, Indian princess, panther, TV, panther, pencil, a nose, panther, etc. Her school mascot is a panther, so she had big plans for that. So, Halloween is a week away and Lydia was without a costume until she said Pumpkin. I grabbed a hold of that one and said I can do that. Pumpkin it is. I must say, it's pretty darn cute. It's a Pottery Barn Kids knock-off made w/o a pattern. It's no fleece-feathered Big Bird, but she'll be the cutest jack-o-lantern on the block.

AND on Saturday between a temple trip with the youth and a youth dance, I crafted the most spectacular costume for one of my young women. She wasn't going to dress up for the Halloween dance, and that just wasn't acceptable. She won most creative for my Hershey's bar made in less than one hour for the bargain price of $0.00. All of my kids will be candy bars next year!

Lyd-O-Lantern!

Go Hawks!

And finally Owen hamming it up for the camera. All photos taken by Lydia.

Oh my... how did that poor girl DANCE in that costume?? I mean, it's very clever and creative, and well done... but could she get down and boogie? I hope so!! Anyway... what about Taylor? What was her costume?? And Lydia has certainly got a flare for photography... or perhaps it's just Owen who's got the the ability to channel all of his inner feelings... great pics either way!

Great work Martha, I mean Sara!

I could just squeeze Owen's Cheeks! He's just too cute...oh and getting way to big...I hate that part of childhood; the growing up part!

Speaking of which, I suppose Taylor is of the "too cool to dress up" age?

She did limbo as a Hershey's bar, she fell down, but she did try it!

Taylor bought a huge faux fur coat at Goodwill and will be dressing up as something... that wears fur? Not sure on that. Originally she was going to be Susan from Lion, the Witch and the Waredrobe, but she's really into wearing make-up and high heels, so something more along the lines of a 5th Ave Socialite, perhaps?
