MAX. He's home safe and sound after being lost for nearly 20 hours in the freezing rain overnight. Jerry takes Max with him on his nightly runs and usually stops to play ball before returning home. Last night Max took off as soon as the collar came off and did turn up on either of Jerry's search and rescue missions. It was a sleepless night for both of us.
The morning was spent making phone calls to the animal shelter, the humane society, the vet, friends and neighbors. One more search before Jerry went to work, but no Max. He's been known to chase many a deer and a few wild turkeys, too, but ALWAYS returns home. I made fliers with his picture to disribute and sent emails to friends around town to be on the lookout.
Jerry and Taylor decided to go search the trail where he had dissappeared from. Jerry said he kept feeling prompted to go to the canal that runs alongside part of the trail, which he had done twice last night and once this morning. Tonight, he got in the canal and lo and behold there was Max!
He spent the whole miserable night and today out in the cold, wet, windy day, poor guy. He seems exhausted, but otherwise in good shape. His nails on all 4 paws are completely ground down from trying to claw his way out of the canal. He will most likely be treated like royalty for the next few weeks.
