All City Swim Meet

IMG_0272

Notice the heavy cloud cover and flag blowing in the 'breeze.'  It was a brisk 58 (or so) degrees, and that was at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.  The morning swimmers are probably still defrosting.

Lydia's first year of competitive swimming ended yesterday with the All-City swim meet.  She had fun improving her strokes and learning a couple new ones.  By the last week of practice she was just getting the starts down, but reverted to her step/jump/dive start for the meet yesterday.

I'm just giddy that she loves swimming.  Giddy I tell you!  Monka and Nana and cousins Kelly and 'uncle' Nick came to cheer Lydi on.  Her relays did well, except for the first one being DQ'd, but they earned a 4th pace ribbon in the free relay.  And it's all about the ribbons.  Lydia was able to win a ribbon in each of the 6 colors this season, so she has a full rainbow set, which is more important than swimming fast, right?

GO LYDI GO! I remember, back in the day, watching her mama swim at Penn State, maybe just 9 years older than Lydia?

Close, I was 15 and 16 when I went to States. I forgot that you came to watch; I DO remember the satin sheets.

We love swimming too! Good job Lydia. Lucky for you your city meet was on Saturday...our's was on Sunday and we had to opt out of conference. Either way, so fun to see the kids swimming their little hearts out. And yes, it's all about the ribbons. :)

All I know is that the girl can rock a swim suit, goggles and head gear. SWEET!

When did she turn into such a string bean??? And in that last one, it's weird how much of each of her parents I can see in her face. Also too, IMHO, anybody so dedicated to swimming that they'll jump in the pool all-but-naked while everyone else is completely bundled up deserves a whole pile of ribbons in every color under the sun.
