A Good Day

I am happy because...

... the sun is shining (never mind that it's 20 degrees and another snow storm is heading our way).

... I finished a quilt today.

... I finished reading New Moon and I started Eclipse. So what if I'm totally into the teenage vampire romance!?!? It's my American Idol.

... Lydia is home again from school, but she hasn't thrown up today nor has anyone else!

... my house is in various stages of clean, with grand hopes that it will actually look like I cleaned today. This includes toilets and dusty cobwebs hiding in all the corners of the house.

... we put together a care package for Uncle Karl who is in Iraq and it might actually make it to the post office this week (along with the quilt mentioned above for little Sophia).

... I read my scriptures this morning, the Psalm of Nephi. If Nephi thought of himself as a wretched man, than what on earth does that make me? (rhetorical question, please don't feel obliged to comment)

... I haven't eaten the whole pan of brownies (with thin mints in 'em - yum!)... yet, but the day's not over.

... it's 4:30 and I'm already thinking about what to make for dinner.

... my kids played together all day with almost no squabbles AND no electronic entertainment! There was a fabulous play about doing laundry. It kinda made "the mom" out to look like Cinderella's evil step mother, but Lydia tried to convince me that it was all make believe. How many plays have you seen about laundry? I bet none that included a flapper jammin' on a Barbie guitar wearing ruby red slippers (Gaby, not Owen). It was awesome.

What made your day special?

Uncle Karl is actually about to LEAVE IRAQ, so please don't send that package! Yes, he's leaving Iraq for good, no, we don't know how soon he will be able to come to Georgia. At the very least he SHOULD at least be able to come home on leave for the baby's arrival. I haven't said anything to anyone because it IS the Army we're dealing with and a: you just can't count on anything the Army says, and b: I didn't want to jinx it! Now that the word will be out, please keep us all in your prayers...

My good thing today is that Karl has called three days in a row from Balad instead of Ashraf, which means he is actually on his way out of Iraq - next stop: Kuwait!

P.S. Other good things for today: as of this afternoon, my living room and foyer are now completely painted, I LOVE the color, and even the blue tape and plastic removal has been accomplished. It only took me four weeks, but at my current girth and energy level, that ain't actually too bad...
