Taylor and I leave for girls' camp today! I can't believe we're nearing the end of June already. Girls' camp is for all young woman at our church between the ages of 12 and 18. The entire stake attends this camp, so there are roughly 120 girls and leaders roughin' it for a week. Each stake does camp differently, but we sleep in tents, use latrines and swim in a lake as a means to shower. I'm taking almost 20 girls from our ward - yikes. That's a lot of hormones and teen angst. Camp is always great fun. Thunderstorms are predicted for part of the week - what's camp without some tornado drills??!?!?!
In other news, I am officially a triathlete! I completed my first triathlon on Saturday. Jerry competed, as well, and placed 46th overall in a field of about 550. I think I stayed in the top half and finished 9th in my age group. Not bad for a first timer. It was also the first time I ever biked 15 miles in a race setting, so my rear-end was screaming at about mile 4. Not fun. I had so much fun, I can't wait to do another one, possibly in July. I learned that I do need to spend a lot more time on the bike and put more miles on my running shoes. I did beat Jerry in the swim by a full minute and that was with swimming all over the place. It's really hard to get your bearings and see where the buoys are. Jerry's overall time was 1:16 and mine was 1:40 for a 600 meter lake swim, 15 mile bike with BIG hills and 5K run with hills.
And we came home to a very warm house and determined that our A/C quit sometime between Friday and Saturday while we were gone. We're not being cycled off by the power company and the little mouse who was living in the A/C unit outside doesn't appear to have caused too much damage. We're on a wait list for getting it repaired. Jerry would MUCH rather spend that kind on money on a new bike...

Congratulations!! What an accomplishment. I am so proud of you and of Jerry!!! Scott and I hope to run in the Marine Corps MARATHON NEXT fall ('08). I will need a full year to convince myself to do it!!!
Congratualtions!! That's awesome. Sam is training for his first triathalon this fall in Malibu or something. What an athletic family!

Congrats on your triathalons, and also congrats to Gracia for finding that awesome book for Jerry! Did they use him for the cover?? ha!
Congrats! That race really came up fast. I thought it was later in the year...I don't know much about triathalonism, but your times sounded spectacular. It would take me approximately 3.5 weeks to complete all of that swimming, biking and running, so you beat me by quite a bit.
Can't wait to hear how girl's camp went. Oh, Girls camp, the memories I have...
Congratulations on your first TRI!! Your next one should be in San Diego! Hope you're having fun at camp!
So how did girls camp go?
